Keep in mind that Oktually is currently in it’s Alpha stage, so some of this overview may be more aspirational than strictly available right now

What is Oktually?

Technically, Oktually is an observability platform designed specifically for Okta Workforce administrators in IT, Security and IAM teams.

Observability is the ability to infer the internal state of a system from it’s outputs, like logs and API endpoints.

Practially, Oktually is a workhorse administration tool for answering questions like, “how do these events relate?”, “which administrators can I downgrade?” and, “how much time do users spend providing a second factor?”

Pragmatism and utility are the name of the game here — expect a mix of tools built for solving specific problems, rather than a paradigm shift in how you interact with Okta.

Who should use Oktually?

Okta Administrators who agree with any of the following:

  • Okta’s admin UI makes it hard to reason about Okta’s configuration
  • Correlating events in Okta’s log inspector is difficult
  • You have a suspicion that Okta contains unknown or unwanted configurations
  • Hardening & maintaining Okta using data feedback is important to you
  • Inspecting Okta shouldn’t require learning a query language

Oktually provides both pre-built insights and interactive tools that make creating your own insights easier, without worrying about language syntax.

What is Oktually not for?

Oktually is not intended:

  • To replace a SIEM — Oktually trades the complete flexibility of a general logging solution like Splunk or Elastic, for the ease of use of a specific audience (Okta Administrators!). It contains some SIEM like features, but you won’t be joining data from across your other SaaS products here.
  • For incident response — Oktually is geared towards the 95% of situations that don’t require the very latest information from your Okta tenant. Oktually is for tasks on normal days like: checking for recent changes; correlating events relevant to a ticket; or, trying to understand the end user experience better.   • To “solve”, “unify” or “revolutionize” identity — Oktually is the workhorse platform you use to help optimize your Okta operations. It was built knowing that many teams lack the data & insights to operate Okta smoothly, and need help with this before delivering on the cutting-edge. If you already have the data proving your Okta is locked down tight and is configured exactly how you expect, then Oktually is not for you; if you don’t, sign up now!
